Abstract: The paper presents the results of comparative analysis of some chosen technical features of solid bricks made in past and nowadays. The investigations were carried out on seven representative objects. The obtained results can be helpful to determine ways of renovation of brick single-family buildings. The state of brick buildings is various – it changes from buildings in satisfying technical state to objects threatening the safety. The reasons of damage of the investigated buildings are mainly due to the features of the bricks and applied mortars as well as to the situation of the buildings in a terrain, to a climate or care to them. There were the most important features chosen to determine: volumetric and unit density, porosity, leakproofness, humidity, absorbability.
