RELATIVE TURBULENCE INTENSITY IN A TWO- STAGE CHANNEL
Keywords: open channel, compound channel, turbulence, measurements
Abstract: Analysis of the relative turbulence intensity of the present paper are based on the measurements of instantaneous of longitudinal velocities in a two-stage channel. It analyzes changes of turbulence intensity for one brimming in conditions established flow at regular intervals. A straight open channel with symmetrically complex trapezoidal cross section, 16 m long and 2.08 m wide was used for the laboratory tests. Measurements with electromagnetic liquid velocity meter were used with the rough overbank channels and the slopes of main channel. Changes of turbulence intensity in particular parts of the channel were evaluated. These investigations mainly have shown the following: values of intensity of turbulence increase from the surface of water in the direction to the bottom and the bed slopes. The results were compared with the ones described in literature.
