Test of application MIKE 11 model for sediment transport estimations in small lowland river

Keywords: open channel, sediment transport, numerical modelling
Abstract: In paper are presented general characteristics of one-dimension hydrodynamic model MIKE 11, which makes possible to estimate sediment transport in rivers at different boundary conditions, by using five formulas and by two procedures based on constant bottom level or his variability caused by erosion-accumulation processes. Model testing was executed by comparisons estimated results with results of bedload transport measurements, carried in Zagożdżonka River, on the research catchment area of Department of Hydraulic Engineering and Environment Recultivation, Warsaw Agricultural University. It was stated distinct differences between sedimentographs and total volumes of bedload transport measured and obtained from model. Simulations show large model sensitivity on established time interval of calculations and character of bottom level changes. Simulations results depend from used sediment transport formulas. The best results were obtained with one-hour time interval of calculation by using Smart-Jaeggi formula. In that case the estimated values determine from 76 to 89% of measured bedload transport.
