Selection of Cam-Clay model parameters for loess subsoil as exemplified by a FEM 3D analysis of a wide building
Keywords: Cam-Clay, loess subsoil, CPT, SDMT, FEM 3D analysis
The paper presents an analysis of the parameters selection for the Cam-Clay model for the purposes of FEM
calculations concerning a wide residential building. Model parameters were determined on the basis of CPT
and SDMT field tests, as well as laboratory triaxial and oedometer tests. Geodetic benchmarks for which
vertical displacement measurements were periodically carried out using the precision levelling method were
placed on the building. Multi-stage calculations were performed as part of numerical analyses. The places
where benchmarks had been placed were separated using a model of the building. Subsequently, multivariate
calculations were made with parameters derived using various methods. After calibrating the partial models,
the next step consisted of calculations in respect of the entire building model, including the subsoil. At each
stage, the results of vertical displacements were compared to the real values measured geodetically. As a result,
a convergence of displacements from both the numerical analysis and the values measured geodetically
was achieved. This allowed us to propose a methodology for determining the parameters of the Cam-Clay
model for the loess subsoil directly on the basis of the results of field tests.
