Economic aspects of using clay in construction of building envelopes in comparison with traditional solution
Keywords: unprocessed clay, energy performance of a building, vapour diffusion, investment costs
The article concerns environmental and economic aspects of the use of unprocessed clay for the construction
of buildings. The comparison of this unconventional solution with single-layer external walls made of
cellular concrete with enhanced thermal insulation power was carried out. The scope of the study covered
hygrothermal calculations in order to adapt the walls structure to the current thermal standards for the partitions.
The methodology for calculating the energy performance of buildings was used to verify the adopted
solutions. In addition, the cost analysis for both solutions was made. The obtained results confirmed that the
construction of partitions using clay in a single-family building can be a good alternative to conventional
solutions.
